Deliciously moist and full of flavour, this is a twist on an old classic that can be made and frozen ahead if wished.

You Will Need

8” Round Spring Form Loose Bottomed Cake Tin (810528)
Wright’s Madeira Cake Mix (066103)
60ml vegetable oil
200ml water
12ozs (350g) Bramley cooking apples (peeled, cored and sliced, just before using).


3ozs (75g) butter/margarine
4ozs (100g) Self Raising flour
3ozs (75g) caster sugar
1 tbsp water

Step 1

Make up cake mix with vegetable oil and water, following simple instructions on the packet.

Step 2

Turn into lined cake tin and arrange sliced apples on top.

Step 3

To make the topping – Rub fat into flour, stir in sugar and water. Sprinkle over apples, then bake at 160ºC for approx 45 mins or until a light golden colour. 

Step 4

Cool in tin, then remove, cut a slice and enjoy!
