The quantities below are approximate. In the majority of cases you will require more paste than you actually use, to efficiently and neatly place it on the cake. There will always be offcuts which may be stored in an airtight bag until required, or may be frozen.

Roll out icing as far as possible to the shape and size required to cover the cake.  A good thickness is approx 8mm but you may wish to vary this.

This is extremely helpful. Ive no printer to copy the above graph so I have drawn the same graph with a pencil onto paper Ive stuck this on the inside of my kitchen cupboard door for future reference.
