Wedding season is finally upon us and we just love seeing all the latest cake trends and themes for brides of 2018. Whatever your theme, style, or personal preferences, your wedding cake is the perfect way to express your personalities and enjoy something that is unique to you.
Wedding cakes continually push the boundaries of cake decoration, and keeping a tab on trending wedding cake ideas is a good start to see what works best for you. We’ve compiled a selection of our 5 favourite wedding cake trends for 2018 to give brides, grooms and cake decorators a slice of inspiration. However, before we dive into the latest wedding cake themes, we’ve asked Michelle Shulman, owner of the award-winning luxury wedding cake business, La Belle Cake Company* on what are the most popular wedding cake trends that they’ve been making over the last year.
“In terms of wedding cake designs for this year, we are still seeing lots of metallic accents coming through. Lots of silver, gold and rose gold and I love this as it can be incorporated across so many wedding themes including vintage and urban, even rustic. A splattering of edible gold leaf over a semi-naked cake looks amazing”
1. Marbled
Still a popular choice amongst many brides, this marbled effect is quick and easy to create. By simply mixing together different shades/colours of sugar paste to match your theme you will achieve a completely unique finish every time, Perfect for brides who want a one off design! Why not try our new House of Cake metallic sugar pastes for a subtle metallic look to your sugar paste, perfect with any colour scheme.
2. Geometric
This geometric wedding cake features the pantone colour of the year, mixed with gold and white sugar paste to create the ever-popular marbled effect. Go crazy with multiple colours or use different shades of the same colour for a more subtle look.
We stock a range of geometric cutters to enable you to produce beautiful geometric designs with ease.
3. Brushstroke
The latest trend to the cake decorating world is brushstroke cakes! Using coloured chocolate or candy melts this technique is inspired by Russian cake designer Kalabasa. Ideal for matching any theme from pastel shades to bright and bold rainbow colours. A simple yet extremely effective way of decorating your cake!
4. Edible Succulents
Succulents have always been a popular choice for cake decorating, but having to protect the cake from these non-edible decorations can be a nuisance. Fortunately for nature loving brides everywhere, 2018 has brought us an edible version of this classic decoration. Now cake makers are piping succulent designs straight onto their cakes with coloured buttercream and the best part there is no right or wrong way to decorate when using this method, either add a range of pre-piped succulents in random places on your tiered cakes or just focus on an elaborate design on the top tier, just like our succulents cake design. Perfectly complimenting a rustic themed wedding.
5. Watercolour & Gold Leaf
What could be more glamorous than adding actual gold to your wedding cake? This stunning Pink watercolour ombre design features a smooth buttercream finish and flecks of 24-carat edible gold leaf, the perfect combination for dazzling your guests! Our step by step guide will allow you to create this beautiful design whether you want to use it on one or all of your wedding cake tiers
