Step 1

Take a little white modelling paste (for ears) and colour pink. Leave 50g white. Colour remainder black.

Colour sugarpaste with sufficient black food colouring to make a mid grey.

Step 2

Knead and roll out the grey paste and cover cake, neatening around the base.

Take the piece of white modelling paste and shape two muzzles. Add a black nose, mouth and fine black whiskers.

Step 3

Make eyes with white paste (two large ‘pea’ size balls, flattened, and shaped into an oval, or use a small round cutter and shape).  Add black pupils, and two white dots to highlight.

Place into position on cake. Add detailing to eyes if you wish, using the black edible pen. Finish eyes and nose with piping jelly for a good shine!

Step 4

Shape two pieces of leftover grey sugarpaste into ears. Roll out pink paste and cut shapes for inner ear, and fix in place.  Attach to cake. These will have to be supported until dry.

Finish the cake with a ribbon and simple bow around the base.

NOTE: All pieces of paste are glued using a ‘gunge’ glue (sugarpaste mashed with water to a tacky consistency)

Step 1

Colour a small piece of modelling paste black for nose and mouth, another piece pink for ear lining, and a further tiny piece green for eyes.

Take a piece of white modelling paste and make a ‘mound’ of paste on cupcake, slightly lower than centre. This will raise the nose area.

Step 2

Add black to some of the buttercream, and leave some white. Place both colours into a piping bag fitted with the drop flower nozzle.  Pipe ‘fur’ all around cupcake, covering it completely.

Take two pieces of white modelling paste for the muzzle part of the nose, and fix in place. Add black nose and mouth, and fine black whiskers.

Step 3

Make eyes with green paste (two small ‘pea’ size balls, flattened, and shaped into an oval, or use a small round cutter). Add black centres of eyes. Position onto cupcake. Finish eyes and nose with piping jelly for a good shine.

Pipe ear shapes towards the back of each cupcake. Roll out pink icing and make shapes for inner ear and fix into place.

Finish piping fur if necessary, filling in any parts which need shaping.
