Step 1

First, shape the face of the dog on top of the cake with some of the white sugarpaste. Make indents for the eyes. Colour approx. 800g of the sugarpaste with latte food colouring until a darkish brown, then add sunflower to enhance the colour.

Cover the cake, neatening around the base, and ensuring the paste over the top sits neatly into the pre formed shaping underneath.

Step 2

Using the white modelling paste, colour a little in pink (tongue and inner ears), some in black (nose and eyes), and a tiny piece of brown using latte and sunflower (eyes). You will need a small piece of white for the eyes – roll out and shape two roughly triangular shapes and place into the eye indents.

Add a small flattened ball of brown into each eye, followed by a black pupil and white highlight.

Step 3

Take a large piece of white sugarpaste and colour it a pale shade of soft caramel. Knead well, roll into a large ball and shape into a triangle to shape the muzzle. Add to the face just below the eyes, cut and open the mouth, and add a small piece of pink, shaped into the tongue.

Step 4

Using a piece of the brown sugarpaste leftover from covering the cake, shape two walnut size balls for the ears, and flatten. Roll out the pink paste, and cut to fit the inner ears. Glue this into the ears and put in place on the cake.

If you wish, complete the cake with a dog collar around the base, made with peacock blue modelling paste, (or any colour you wish),with the buckle cut out and painted with silver dusting powder (75105) mixed with spirit (5501).
