Step 1

For the paste, use equal quantities sugarpaste and Cake Star modelling paste together, or use sugar flower paste. Knead well and add colour if required.

Step 2

Roll paste out very thinly and cut out with ‘easy carnation’ cutter. Frill the  petal edges all round with the small frilling stick. This will create the frill.

Step 3

Brush a line of glue along the length of the paste just above the centre.

Step 4

Fold in half lengthwise and brush another line of glue along the bottom edge. Roll up to form a small carnation, starting the roll as tightly as possible. Tweak the petals if necessary to give a realistic look.

Repeat this process if you want a larger carnation until you have the size required. Allow to dry.

Step 5

If you wish, brush a deeper shade of the dusting powder into the centre to bring your carnation to life!  We made the carnation in yellow and then after drying, brushed the petal edges with Colour Splash Ruby food colouring powder (75122).
