Super Spooky Monster Cupcakes

Introduction

Looking for some Halloween baking inspiration? These chocolate monster cupcakes will do the trick, with a treat.

The perfect blend of creepy, and cute, these little monsters are sure to impress. A deliciously chocolate sponge, with brightly coloured vanilla buttercream, and an Oreo grin, these are sure to impress your Halloween party guests.

Not only are they fun to decorate, but they also taste delicious!

Ingredients

For the cake

  • 4 tbsp boiling water
  • 40g cocoa powder
  • 3 eggs
  • 175g butter
  • 165g caster sugar
  • 115g self-raising flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder

Method

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 170 degrees Celsius and line a 12-hole muffin tin with your cupcake cases.

Step 2

Using an electric mixer, or stand mixer, cream together your butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Mixing

Step 3

Add in your eggs, cocoa powder, flour, and boiling water and mix until fully combined. Put your batter into the cases.

 

 

Baking

Step 4

Bake for 18 to 20 minutes until a skewer inserted into the middle of the cupcakes comes out clean.
Buttercream

Step 5, 6 & 7

Make your buttercream icing by creaming together your butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add in your icing sugar in two halves and mix until combined.

Colour your buttercream with chosen colour(s) and put into a piping bag with your grass tip piping nozzle.

 

 

Piping

Step 8

Pipe your monster’s fur all over the top of the cupcakes.

Step 9

Add your edible eyes onto the cupcake in any way you like.

Step 10

Using either a mini Oreo, or half of a regular Oreo, give your monsters a grin, and then pipe on the teeth using an edible white icing pen. Enjoy!
