Sugarflair Spectral Food Colouring Paste - Bitter Lemon - 25g
Sugarflair Bitter Lemon / Lime Spectral Paste is a sharp, zesty yellow-green, part of the trusted Sugarflair range of highly concentrated food colouring pastes. Designed for colouring sugarpaste, flowerpaste, marzipan, buttercream, royal icing and cake mixes, this shade gives bakers and decorators a reliable, zingy colour that is ideal for citrus-themed bakes, spring cakes and fresh fruit cupcakes.
Because the paste is so concentrated, a little goes a long way. Add a small amount with a cocktail stick, mix thoroughly, and build up gradually until you reach the shade you want. The consistency of your icing will not change significantly, even when a stronger colour is needed, and the shade will deepen slightly as it dries, so start light and add more as required.
As well as colouring icing, this paste can be used to create your own edible paint. Simply dilute a small amount with rejuvenator spirit, dipping solution, or water, and apply with a fine paintbrush for hand-painted cake designs, delicate detailing or bold artistic finishes.
This handy 25g pot is nut free, gluten free and suitable for vegans, and is made in England to Sugarflair's professional standard. A great addition to any home baker's cupboard.
Instructions for Use
Sugarflair Spectral Paste colours can be added or kneaded into sugarpaste, fondant, buttercream, royal icing, marzipan, flower paste and modelling paste. Simply add a little at a time with a toothpick to build up your desired shade without changing the consistency of the product you are working with. When mixing into sugarpaste, use sparingly to achieve a pastel shade, but add more to give a strong, vibrant colour.
If using pastes as food colouring paint add a little Rejuvenator Spirit or Dipping Solution using a small brush and paint on to icing. Water may be used but will not dry as quickly, or give quite such a good finish.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I use Sugarflair Bitter Lemon/Lime Spectral Paste?
Add a little at a time with a cocktail stick, mixing thoroughly into your sugarpaste, buttercream or icing, and build up gradually until you reach your desired shade.
How much paste should I add to get a strong colour?
For a strong, vibrant shade add more paste than you would for a pastel tone, building it up gradually - the consistency of your icing will change very little either way.
Will the shade change as it dries?
Yes, Sugarflair Spectral Paste colours are highly concentrated and will deepen slightly once dry, so it's best to start with less than you think you need.
Does the paste affect the texture of my icing?
No, because the paste is so concentrated only a small amount is needed, so it won't noticeably change the texture or workability of your sugarpaste, buttercream or royal icing.
Can I mix this with other Spectral Paste colours to create a custom shade?
Yes, Sugarflair Spectral Pastes can be blended together to create your own custom shades - add each colour gradually and mix thoroughly to check the result as you go.
Can I use this paste to make edible paint?

Can I use Bitter Lemon Spectral Paste in buttercream and royal icing, not just sugarpaste?
Yes, this paste is suitable for colouring sugarpaste, flowerpaste, marzipan, buttercream, royal icing and cake mixes.
