Sugarflair Spectral Food Colouring Paste - Orchid - 25g
Sugarflair Orchid Spectral Paste is a soft, dusty mauve-pink, part of the trusted Sugarflair range of highly concentrated food colouring pastes. Designed for colouring sugarpaste, flowerpaste, marzipan, buttercream, royal icing and cake mixes, this shade gives bakers and decorators a reliable, elegant colour that is ideal for spring weddings, botanical cakes and romantic celebration bakes.
Because the paste is so concentrated, a little goes a long way. Add a small amount with a cocktail stick, mix thoroughly, and build up gradually until you reach the shade you want. The consistency of your icing will not change significantly, even when a stronger colour is needed, and the shade will deepen slightly as it dries, so start light and add more as required.
As well as colouring icing, this paste can be used to create your own edible paint. Simply dilute a small amount with rejuvenator spirit, dipping solution, or water, and apply with a fine paintbrush for hand-painted cake designs, delicate detailing or bold artistic finishes.
This handy 25g pot is nut free, gluten free and suitable for vegans, and is made in England to Sugarflair's professional standard. A great addition to any home baker's cupboard.
Instructions for Use
Sugarflair Spectral Paste colours can be added or kneaded into sugarpaste, fondant, buttercream, royal icing, marzipan, flower paste and modelling paste. Simply add a little at a time with a toothpick to build up your desired shade without changing the consistency of the product you are working with. When mixing into sugarpaste, use sparingly to achieve a pastel shade, but add more to give a strong, vibrant colour.
If using pastes as food colouring paint add a little Rejuvenator Spirit or Dipping Solution using a small brush and paint on to icing. Water may be used but will not dry as quickly, or give quite such a good finish.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my colour too pale even after adding paste?
Add a little more paste at a time - because the colours darken slightly on drying, it's easy to underestimate how much is needed for a bold shade.
I've added too much paste - can I fix the colour?
If your icing becomes too vivid, you can dilute it by kneading in more of your base sugarpaste, buttercream or icing.
Why has my icing gone slightly grainy after adding colour?
This is usually caused by adding too much paste too quickly - add it gradually and knead thoroughly to keep a smooth, even consistency.
Can too much paste affect the taste of my icing?
Used sparingly it shouldn't noticeably affect the taste, though very large amounts of any concentrated colour may add a subtle flavour.
What's the best tool for adding the paste without mess?
A cocktail stick or the tip of a clean knife works well for adding small, controlled amounts of paste without mess.
How do I use Sugarflair Orchid Spectral Paste?
Add a small amount of the orchid paste to your icing with a cocktail stick, mixing thoroughly and building up gradually until you reach your desired shade.
Will the colour change once it dries?
Yes, Sugarflair Spectral Paste colours are highly concentrated and will deepen slightly as they dry, so start with less than you think you need.
Can I use this paste to make edible paint?
Yes, simply dilute a little of the paste with rejuvenator spirit, dipping solution or water and apply with a fine paintbrush for hand-painted designs.
Is Sugarflair Spectral Paste gluten free and vegan?
Yes, the full Spectral Paste range, including this shade, is nut free, gluten free and suitable for vegans.
Can I use Orchid Spectral Paste in buttercream and royal icing, not just sugarpaste?
Yes, this paste is suitable for colouring sugarpaste, flowerpaste, marzipan, buttercream, royal icing and cake mixes.
