Step 1

Reserve approx. 200g white sugarpaste and colour the remaining paste with jade gel food colouring to a marbled effect. Cover board with jade coloured sugarpaste and using the scales/shell texture mat, emboss the sugarpaste. Allow to dry.

Add 1 teaspoon of tylo powder to the 200g white remaining to strengthen, and knead in.

Cover cake with marbled effect paste and place on board, offset to the back. Allow to dry.

Step 2

For the drape, use 150g strengthened white paste, roll out thinly, to a strip approx 25cm long and 15cm wide. As an alternative use for the wood texture mat, emboss the drape to create a sea/wave effect. Drape over the cake and down the side, creating folds as you go.

With the last 50g of strengthened paste, colour with nude and latte to a marbled effect and make shells using the large seashore mould. Allow to dry. Place shells, Ariel and other decorations if used onto cake.

Optional Extras
  • Make fish for the sides of the cake.
  • Make coral in white and spray a colour on afterwards. (Take some pastillage, made up with pastillage powder (Squires Pastillage Instant Mix - 5954), and cut into small pieces approx 100g each. Line a microwave proof bowl with a piece of baking parchment, and place one piece of pastillage into it on top of the paper, uncovered. Heat on full in a microwave oven for 1 minute. It will expand into a coral (or rock) like appearance.  Remove and allow to cool before removing the baking parchment. Split into smaller pieces as required, and colour. Note: Handle with care as this is extremely fragile.
  • Add flowers to the top of the cake around Ariel.
