This basic shortbread biscuit recipe is so easy to do and will ensure a perfect biscuit for any celebration, or just when you fancy an everyday treat.
Shortbread is so simple to make it's great for getting the kids involved with, helping with measuring, mixing and using cutters to make shortbread in all different shapes and sizes.
Preheat oven to 180°C (375°/Gas Mark 5)
Place all ingredients into mixing bowl and knead together until mixture has combined and is a soft consistency.
Adding a couple of drops of food flavourings can make your shortbread really unique. We love lemon for a really fresh tasting shortbread ideal for spring, or consider trying brandy butter, Christmas cake or cinnamon to add a twist to festive shortbread.
Roll out to approx. ½cm thickness and cut out shapes using cookie cutters to suit your theme.
Place on a baking tray and prick each biscuit with a fork to prevent air bubbles when baking.
Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown. Keep an eye on these as different shapes and sizes may cook quicker, or take a little longer.
Allow to cool completely then decorate as desired.
