Homemade Valentine's Day Chocolates

Valentine’s Day and chocolates are a match made in heaven, so what better way to say ‘I love you’ this year than with some special homemade Valentine’s Day chocolates. Making your very own sweet treats straight from the heart is a great way to upgrade from the standard store-bought box of chocolates and makes the perfect Valentine’s Day gift, whether it’s for your other half, a friend or just for a bit of Valentine’s self-indulgence. Whoever the recipient, these homemade chocolates are pretty much guaranteed to impress!

Chocolate as a creative hobby has rapidly increased in popularity over the last year so if you want to give it a go but aren’t sure where to start then this simple guide is for you! Making chocolate can be as simple or complicated as you like but, either way, making your own gives that extra personal touch that no supermarket or corner shop can compete with. And they’re pretty fun to make, too 🙂

We have a variety of Valentine’s chocolate moulds to choose from that are all quick and easy to use – we used the PME mini hearts mould for ours. Simply melt your chocolate using a pan, microwave or electric chocolate melting pot being sure not to overcook it! Pour your melted chocolate into each cavity, lightly tapping the mould to release any air bubbles. Pop in the fridge for around 15 minutes or until hardened and – voila – you have your very own Valentine’s chocolates. Easy, right?

Now for the fun part. You can use many of our edible glitter and food colouring products to decorate your chocolates so it’s entirely your choice! For our little chocs, we used our House of Cake Glitter Spray in Gold and Silver and our Colour Splash food colouring powder in Ruby Red for an extra special touch. For more colourful treats, why not try using Candy Melts? The range come in a variety of colours, have a smooth texture and can be quickly melted using the microwave – and they taste pretty fantastic, too!

If you’re a bit of a messy baker then a good tip is to try using a squeezy bottle. Just fill the bottle with your melted chocolate and pour into your moulds with perfect precision. Simple but brilliant!

There are plenty of mouth watering recipes online but we can’t get enough of these delicious strawberries and cream truffles we found on Taste. The recipe creates an amazing white chocolate interior with a milk chocolate shell that’s perfect for decorating however you like!

They’re incredibly easy to make and are fantastic for getting really creative with your Valentine’s decorations – think sprinkles, glitter, powder, dragees or even sugar pipings. Don’t forget to add pink cake pop sticks for an extra fun treat!
