Last month we dedicated our wedding theme blog to the vibrant Colour Pop trend, so this month we’re focusing on something with a little more glitz. Metallic themes have become one of the hottest wedding trends of 2016 and it’s easy to see why!
A metallic colour scheme is the perfect way to dress up any wedding, from classic to modern. Whether you’re looking to add dramatic glamour or just a hint of subtle shimmer, creating a gorgeous luxe metallic wedding can be a lot easier than it looks.
Infusing metallic hues into your day is a wonderful way to make your wedding really shine. Metallic shades such as gold, silver, bronze and copper paired with neutral white and ivory is the perfect way to achieve a luxurious and timeless feel. If you’d rather follow a more simple colour scheme, try using accents of just one metallic shade. Warm gold tones work beautifully for brides wanting to add grand opulence to their big day, while sparkling silvers are ideal for pretty winter wonderland weddings.
Incorporating your chosen colour scheme into your cake is a crucial part of perfecting your wedding theme. A metallic wedding cake is the epitome of luxury, elegance and glamour. And the good news is that the gorgeous metallic effect you can see in our pictures is actually very easy to achieve with the right tools. Many of our favourite metallic cakes are created using airbrush colours for a really professional sheen. We have some beautiful pearlescent shades in our Colour Splash airbrush range including gold, silver and rose gold which are perfect for giving any cake a shimmering metallic finish.
If you don’t own an airbrush kit, we also have some pretty, easy-to-use gold and silver metallic sprays in the Colour Splash range. The range is perfect for adding a smooth, even coat of metallic colour to large cake surfaces but, for full coverage, you may also need to match your fondant underneath to the shade you are looking to achieve; with their glistening lustre finish, our Culpitt metallic sugar pastes are perfect choices. And of course, gold leaf and gold or silver metallic dusts also work beautifully on metallic cakes. In fact, there are so many cake decorating methods available for cakes and bakes following this theme, it’s really all down to your personal preference.
Our gold cake stands are perfect for displaying a special wedding cake, while our House of Cake glitter icing tubes are ideal for adding a bit of personalisation. Make some special cupcakes in our metallic cupcake cases and hand out at the end of the night for a simple yet fitting dessert.
Unlike many other themes, a metallic theme only requires accents of gold, silver or bronze to work. In other words, it’s not necessary to make everything shine so remember to balance it out. Whether it’s the bridesmaids’ dresses or the table cloths, try to just mix and match the elements to suit your taste.
Glitter-covered place cards, mirrored table runners, striking silver table numbers, gold napkins, metallic chairs and silver-painted vases all add a big dose of style and glamour to table décor. Oh, and the beauty of a metallic cake is that it alone stands as a decorative element during the celebrations, so you’ve already got your central focus sorted!
A shimmering bouquet is crucial to any metallic theme so we recommend using flowers such as chrysanthemums, carnations, button mums, English daisies, and dusty millers for an elegant look that compliments your overall look for the day. Decorate your flowers with a gold, silver or bronze spray for extra shine that won’t go unnoticed!
